Taking the scenic route from Spadina Station to St George Station, we will explore highlights of more than a century's worth of apartment architecture, cultural history and community organizing.

The Annex is home to 70% renters in a wide variety of vertical communities.

Through the eyes of current tenants, you will learn about the history and reception of renters, who have been welcomed, discouraged, enticed and displaced throughout the decades.

Public morals, government policies and changing demographics contributed to the complex texture of the neighbourhood.

While apartment living continues to offer comfortable housing options to generations of Torontonians, new challenges have surfaced as the demand for density and development grows.

As we re-imagine this corner of the Annex together, you’ll meet residents and special guests, discover the oldest functioning apartment house in Toronto, and share the architectural glories and human wealth offered by mid-century modern St George Street.

Led by Rebecca Gimmi: No Demovictions organizer, Annex Residents Association Director, 145 St George Tenants Committee with support from Charlotte Mickie: TVO documentary “Charlotte’s Castle”, No Demovictions organizer, Annex Residents Association Director, leader of the Spadina Gardens Tenants Association.

With special guest, Annex tenant and activist icon Bobbi Speck.
